The Landing Seafood Restaurant & Bar
This history of Onehunga is interwoven with the history of its pubs and there were many of these dating back to the mid eighteen hundreds. The Manukau Hotel was built in 1865 and is the last remaining of the later pubs. All the others have been demolished or closed.
The original hotel was an elegant example of the colonial style hotel but in its later years was allowed to deteriorate into a building without character. However a recent owner undertook a complete renovation and so once again the old Manukau Hotel is back to its former glory.
Kauri floors were restored and extensive use of the kauri, salvaged from the out buildings was used in the making of the tables and bar. During the renovations the double sided fireplace was discovered and restored.
The restaurant was originally the public bar and has artwork for sale by local artists who receive 100% of the sale price. The bar has many photographs on the walls showing the early days of the old Manukau Hotel and local area…
