- Konrad Ries - Konrad Ries started his career as an apprentice chef in one of Auckland’s landmark restaurants, The Bronze Goat on Ponsonby Road. Perfecting the basic skills there while also studying at ATU he soon grasped a passion for his craft. He soon moved to Sails Restaurant, overlooking Westhaven marina spending a year guided by Scott Taylor & Jason Blackie, he headed off to Australia as a 19 year old to broaden his knowledge, spending the next 8 years cooking under several renowned chefs; Pete Evans & Manu Feiddel of Hugos & Hugos Lounge, Sydney, Jean-Michel Geurst of Thredbo Alpine Hotel, Thredbo, Harley Charron from the lodge bistro in Salt-Lake City and Raymond Capaldi & Gary Megan of Fenix, Melbourne. This all provided Konrad inherent experience in both the classical techniques and new-wave molecular gastronomy, which he now implements in his own kitchen at Bach’n.
